Window Seat Storage

Introduction:

A window seat can add as much as 12 cubic feet of valuable storage space that doubles as attractive usable seating for your home. If you are remodeling an attic bedroom that has a dormer with a window or any other room where you need additional storage space a window seat may be the right option.

A space saving window seat storage bench is an attractive and low-cost way to boost your home’s storage space. A window seat can be comfortable, attractive, and provide additional storage capacity. The benefits of window seats are many:

·       They de-clutter a room

·       Provide comfy built-in seating

·       Add architectural appeal to any room.

Types of window seat designs:

Window seats typically are one of three types. Each type can be made with a storage compartment accessible via drawers, doors, open shelves, or a lift-up seat. An average window seat takes up about 12 cubic feet and provides about that much in storage space.

A freestanding window seat unit is inexpensive and portable but isn’t as finished looking as a custom built in window seat.

Custom built window seats give can give you exactly the look and style you want and can be made to fit into odd shaped spaces.

Modular window seats are built using stock kitchen cabinets from a home improvement center. This is a moderately priced option that the average DIY homeowner can do with little difficulty.

You can add a window seat storage seat in virtually any room. Some options include:

·       For entryway for boots, shoes, and seasonal or sports gear storage.

·       In playrooms for storing toys and games.

·       In bathrooms to store towels.

·       Underneath bay windows.

Window seat installation tips:

If a floor or wall vent keeps you from installing a window seat simply redirect the vent toward the window seats toe-kick to provide an opening for heated or cooled air to flow into the room.

The window size will determine the length of the seat. The height (including the seat cushion) should be approximately18 to 20 inches with a depth of 20 to 24 inches to allow for the window seat cushions along the back.

Installing a window storage seat is a great way to provide extra storage place in nearly any room. The installation is an easy DIY project that can be completed as a week end project.
