my home, all made by Velux.
The skylights are installed in the roof of the sun
porch. The roof is a hip roof off the main house
with a skylight installed in each section. Even
though the porch walls are nearly all glass the
skylight brings in a great deal of additional light
to brighten up the room.
The main part of the house is also of hip roof
construction. The pitch angle is 40 degrees which
provides a very large attic space. I finished the
attic space into a very large room with three
walk-in storage closets and a full bath. Because
the roof is a hip roof there was really no way to
install traditional windows so I installed three
large roof windows.
The attic room has become one of the most
favorite rooms in the house because of its
brightness. And because the roof windows fully open
there is plenty of cool air circulation during the
summer months.
Installing skylights and roof windows is a
relatively easy DIY task for most homeowners. They
come with an installation kit that includes all the
hardware and flashing for installation. If you do
not have the skills and tools to install them

them for you at a very reasonable cost. By installing skylights you can use the sun to lower your carbon footprint and brighten up your home.
