Glass Patio Doors

Introduction:

During the summer season the patio is a great place to spend time either relaxing with friends or with the whole family. The patio can be a refuge during nice weather as most people like to spend their time on the patio or on their decks rather than inside the house.

The weather dictates how much time we spend outside on the patio because it does not remain stable throughout the year or even the day. Sometimes it is too hot or cold outside to enjoy the patio. During bad weather everyone likes to stay inside the house. Large glass patio doors allow you to enjoy the view outside regardless of the season or the daily weather. Patio Doors

If you do not have large glass patio doors to view and enjoy your patio or deck, you may want to consider installing them. Replacement sliding patio doors are not all that difficult to install for the DIY homeowner. Sliding glass patio doors are available in many different styles and sizes. If a standard size door will not fit in place of your existing patio door most door and widow manufacturers can make custom fit doors.

Glass patio door frames are either made of aluminum, natural wood or vinyl clad frames. The glass is double or triple glazed for energy efficiency and ultra violet sun light penetration. They are mounted on track rollers that make them easy to open or close regardless of the door size. Usually the entire assembly comes as a completed unit (kit) or if it is a very large door the frame comes in pieces (usually four) that are easy to assemble on site.

The door unit fits into the rough opening and attached with screws or nails to the house structure. After the unit is installed the inside finish trim is installed. A sliding glass patio door can be installed in approximately two hours including the inside trim.

I have found that the best glass patio doors are made by Anderson or Pella windows. They manufacture both sliding and hinged patio doors. Their products are superior to most other door manufacturers and are covered by an extensive warrantee. In addition, if you should experience any problems with your door their customer service center will respond immediately to either make repairs or replace the unit free of charge.

If you want easy access to your patio or deck to enjoy the outside in all kinds of weather, installing a glass patio door may be the answer. They are made to fit nearly any application and are easy to install.
