Garage Door Openers

Remote Garage Door Openers

If you have a garage you need a remote garage door opener. A remote garage door opener will keep you out of the weather during stormy weather.

Garage door openers and remote garage door openers are no longer a luxury item. A properly operating garage door opener will save you from having to get out of your car in bad weather and also save the stress on your back. The DIY homeowner can purchase and install most automatic garage door openers in a couple of hours using basic household tools. The homeowner can do just as good of a job as most professional garage door installers. Good quality openers can be purchased from $140 to $220, depending upon the horsepower rating of the opening motor. Usually a 1/3 horsepower motor is adequate for most home garage doors; however, for heavier doors 1/2 and 3/4 horsepower openers are available.

There are several different types of garage door openers available. Most home overhead garage door opener systems use a chain drive, belt drive, or a screw drive to operate the door. The chain drive is the noisiest however, it is the most popular. Screw drive systems are quieter than the chain drive and the rubber belt is the quietest of the three, and has steel reinforcement similar to a tire. All of these types of automatic garage door openers are equipped with several different accessories that provide convenience of operation and safety.

1.    Most units rely on rolling code technology in the garage door transmitters. Encoders/decoders in the remote transmitter and the receiver work on a rolling code that prevents burglars from recording a code and replaying it to open your garage door.

2.    Most overhead automatic garage door openers have features such as a courtesy light that turns on when the door opens and automatically turns off after a preset amount of time.

3.    Motion sensors will turn on the light when someone enters the garage while the door is open.

4.    A remote lockout feature turns off the remote radio receiver while you are on vacation.

5.    Although nearly all overhead garage door remote openers come with a remote control transmitter for your vehicle to operate the door, most new cars come with 'Homelink' remotes installed that can be keyed to the opener.

6.    Garage door keypad openers or a keyless entry panel is installed on the outside of the door to operate it in the event you are locked out without a key. These are usually wireless systems that do not require wiring.  Just enter your code numbers to operate your door opener.

If you have a garage you should have a garage door opener. With a garage door opener there is no more getting out of the car in nasty weather to open or close your garage door. Simply press the remote button on your remote control from within your car and the garage door will open and close. If you are fortunate enough to have a garage a remote garage door opener is an absolute must.
