Folding Doors | Bifold Doors
Folding Doors
Introduction: Doors with multiple sections or a folding in pair are called either folding doors or bifold doors. These doors can be folded off both sides for two pairs and can be opened from either side for one pair. The most commonly used material in a folding door is wood however they may also be made of fiberglass or metal. Folding
and bifold doors
are usually made for closets but these doors can be
used as passage ways between rooms. They are
helpful in enhancing the light in a room when used
as window shudders. They can be a great asset to
any home or apartment.
There are
plenty of interior folding doors / bi fold doors
designs available on the market. The louvered
bifold door is the most popular type used in home
construction. They are generally used for laundry
rooms and closets where there is no need for
security of privacy.
In many homes smaller louvered patio doors
are commonly used to form window shutters.
Another
popular type of these folding doors is mirrored
bifold doors. These are frequently used in bedrooms
and bathrooms. Mirrored bi folds are one of the
traits that make them common in the wardrobe and
may act as full-bodied mirrors.
The raised panel bifold door is also popular. They
have a very elegant look of craftsmanship and add a
lot of character to a finished room.
Raised
panel doors are made by sawing or etching designs
into the wood of the doors that give them the
raised panel appearance.
Often these
doors are used in bedrooms, kitchens and pantries.
Bifold doors move easily due the design of the
hinges. Living rooms, kitchen and dining rooms are
some of the areas in which these doors are often
installed. They are usually made of in metal,
composite wood or fiberglass. Many are equipped
with a locking mechanism.
Quite often
bifold and sliding doors are replacing the French
doors inside the home. The doors can be made in any
size to fit any opening. They can be made to swing
either way or just one way.
Bifold doors do not present the problem of swelling to a point that they cause sticking in humid climates as regular interior doors. I am not a big fan of bifold doors but they do have a logical application when used as closet folding doors or pantry doors. In addition, they are less expensive than regular hung hinged doors.
