Closet Doors
Choose the Right Closet Door
There have been many
improvements in closet doors over the decades which
have made them more attractive and there is a much
greater variety to choose from. Selecting the right
closet door is just as important as selecting the
right interior and exterior doors for your home.
Closet doors are usually made from wood, either
hardwood of softwood, but fiberglass doors are also
available.
The type of closet door you choose depends upon the
type of closet. Clothes and utility closets usually
have solid or louver wood doors but a china closet
would have a glass door that is framed with wood.
You have the choice of having a sliding door,
folding doors, byfold closet doors, or a regular
hinged door. And of course there are many choices
of hardware to choose from. Sliding doors are
usually used where the doors needs to be very large
or when a folding door or hinged door may not work
as well because of the door size and the weight.
The best overall door is a solid door but
unfortunately they are also very expensive. Hollow
core doors and solid core doors have taken the
place of solid doors. In addition, these new doors
are usually made of a composite material that is
attached to a wood frame to form the door. They are
just as attractive and as durable as solid wood
doors and they are much less expensive.
I prefer to use only hinged doors or sliding doors
for closets, either solid or louvered. The half
louver closet door is a very attractive door and is
especially useful when a closet needs venting. As
far as folding closet doors go I do not recommend
them. I have found that they are dangerous as
fingers and arms can be pinched in the door folding
section quite easily. In addition, they are
difficult to adjust for an easy closing and opening
and require frequent adjustments. When it comes time to purchase closet doors for your home take the time to choose the right closet door. There are many styles and different materials to choose from.
