How to Use a Stud Finder

Finding Wall Studs

Introduction:

You don't need x-ray vision to find wall studs to hang pictures, cabinets, install shelving or other wall mounted items. A wall stud finder takes all the guess work out of finding wall studs. Nothing is so annoying as to think that you have found a stud but there really isn’t one where you thought. Old style stud finders were of little help and often left you wondering if there is even a stud in the wall. That has all changed with the Stanley 77-115 stud finder.

The new Stanley stud sensor 150 High-visibility LED indicatesStaney stud finder precisely where the stud edge is located and the multimode panel ensures accurate depth indication. A unique speaker feature provides audible sound when locating studs. The high-impact ABS case is built for strength and durability.

The way the Stanley stud finder detects ferrous and nonferrous metals, wood studs, pipes and live electrical wires is by emitting a signal into the wall surface material. Its large backlit LCD display pinpoints the object's center and a detection status indicator lets you know if no object is found as you scan across the wall.

How to use a stud finder:

To use the Stanley stud finder simply turn it on and give it a few moments to warm up and it’s ready to work. Slowly scan the wall area where you want to hang an object and the indicator will indicate exactly where the studs are located. It will also indicate if there is an electrical wire in the wall. This is very important to avoid shorting out electrical circuits.

The Stanley 77-115 stud finder cost approximately $15 which is a good price for the value. They are many other stud finders on the market that range from a few dollars to as high as $60. They all work but not as well as the Stanley.

That is how to use a stud finder and the Stanley is one of the best on the market. If you are DIY homeowner you really should have one of these stud finders in your DIY tool kit.
