Point-of-Use Hot Water Heaters
The Tankless Water Heaters
Point-of-use water heaters,
also called instantaneous heaters, are small water
heaters, tankless or semi tankless, that provide
instant hot water to a specific sink or shower and
larger one can supply sufficient hot water to a
whole house.
They are often used in conjunction with a regular
water heater of any type, or in an out-building
where only occasional hot water is needed.
Point-of-use
water heaters are especially useful for sinks or
showers located far away from the main water heater
and can minimize water use for systems that don't
have a recirculation system that keeps hot water
flowing through the pipes all the time. Otherwise a
lot of cold water will flow through the line before
the hot water reaches the point-of- use.
If you are tired of running out of hot water in the
shower and you want to replace that old hot water
heater, consider the tankless water heater at
point-of-use to augment the existing system.
Tankless hot water heaters can be a great solution
to any household hot water needs. These hot water
heaters are also referred to as on demand hot water
heaters because they don't store hot water; they
create it only on demand. One of the best parts of
these hot heaters is that they can qualify you for
a $300 federal energy tax credit.
Although these are great hot water heaters there
are some limitations and trade-offs you should
consider before deciding that a tankless hot water
heater is right for your household. Most users are
happy with these units and others are not. If they
are improperly used they can be disappointing and
expensive. They are available in two types,
point-of-use and whole-house versions. They are
fueled by electric, natural gas or propane gas.
Some units are sized to heat a very small quantity
and others can provide enough hot water for a two
or more bathroom house.
There is a lot to be aware of before purchasing one of these units. I recommend that you do your research before investing in one of these hot water heaters. They can cost as little as $300 up to $800, depending on size and type of fuel used. Related articles: How to Flush a Hot Water Heater
