Pealing Concrete Floor Paint
Pealing concrete floor paint is often a
homeowner's efforts to dress up the garage or basement with
the wrong type of floor paint. Unfortunately it more often
than not does not work out well. Although a dirty and
stained concrete is usually the standard for home garages
and basements, the eyesore of blisters, pealing, and
chipping of a painted concrete floor is often the result of
the homeowner's failure to do it right and not using the
right paint. A new method in technology in floor painting
solves the problem of painting concrete floors.
Concrete epoxy paint is the best way to prevent
pealing concrete floor paint. It is weather resistant to
rain, snow, oil, and heavy traffic. This resistance is due
to the epoxy coatings, which come in two parts.
When the two
parts are mixed a catalyzing process changes these two parts
from a liquid to a permanent solid when dry. Epoxy paint is
superior because regular paint is either a water or a
solvent based paint that when the water or the solvent
evaporate in the drying process the resulting paint will
dissolve when water or a solvent comes in contact with it
again.
Because concrete floors such as garages and basements
are subject to water and solvents from automobile traffic
the paint will soften and peal leaving a nasty looking mess
that looks worse than the raw concrete before being painted.
Even
if the paint does not peal it is susceptible to blistering
and chipping. However, water and most solvents have no
effect on epoxy painted surfaces. These epoxy painted
surfaces have been successfully used in heavy industrial
plants for many years. Contaminates such as mold and mildew,
will not penetrate the epoxy painted surface and can be
easily washed away.
Preparation is the most important part
when applying epoxy paint. The floor must be thoroughly
clean of all dust, dirt, and oils so the epoxy will
penetrate the pours of the concrete and hold firmly.
Applying epoxy paint
to new concrete is not recommended until it has cured for
approximately six months.
When purchasing epoxy paint the
homeowner should not necessarily rely on retail store clerks
to help or provide the best advice. Epoxy paint is
expensive; therefore it is much better to purchase factory
direct kits that include all the material and step-by-step
instructions.
Most sellers of factory direct epoxy paint
kits also provide online help and advice. Using the step by
step instructions, any homeowner can perform this DIY
project and have a quality floor in their garage or basement
that will last for years. A little touch up may be necessary
over the years to keep the finish looking great for decades.
Although many home supply centers and
paint supply stores sell epoxy paint, the best place to
purchase it is directly from the manufacturer. We recommend
Durall Industrial Flooring. They offer no-cost and
no-obligation quotes for customized kits of all the
necessary materials and they offer over 20 colors to select
from. T
he finished floor can be gloss, flat, or satin and
may be accented with decorative chips or skid-resistant.
Dealing with pealing concrete floor paint can be eliminated
by using epoxy paint floor finish.
