Getting Ready for Winter

Handyman Services

Introduction:

A handyman can help you to get your home ready for the winter months. He or she can help you perform many tasks around your home that you may not be able to perform yourself without assistance. It is very common for homeowners to resort to the assistance of a handyman for his or her professional help because they do not have the time to make the repairs on their own.

Getting ready for winter may require cleaning, making minor repairs, putting away outdoor summer furniture or performing routine preventive home maintenance. Whatever the task it’s likely a local handyman can either do them for you or assist you in getting the work done before winter sets in.

Getting ready for winter tips:

1.    Roof:

If your roof is in need of repairs due to leaks, damage of the roofing material or loose gutters it is time to make the repairs. These problems can cause significantly damage to your home during the winter

2.    Windows:

Reseal any leaky windows that have small crack or ineffective sealer. Window leaks can increase the cost of heating your home throughout the winter months and cause damage from wood rot.

3.    Landscaping:

Getting your landscaping under control is very important, too. Rake the leaves from around the house and from the lawn. The lawn can suffer damage by leaving leaves on it during the winter. If you have a swimming pool it will need winterizing.

4.    Garage:

Organize the garage by putting away summer tools and making repairs to the carport. Organizing the garage will make room for the snow blower and snow shovel while improving access to your home during the winter weather.

5.    Fireplace and woodstove:

Clean the fireplace and woodstove chimney and stove pipe to avoid any possibility of a chimney fire and increase their burning efficiency. Stack fire wood in a convenient location for access during the winter.

6.    Patio and deck:

Take precautions to protect your patio or deck and furniture. Wood rot is a big problem on outdoor furniture that is left outdoors during the winter months. Cover any furniture left outside for the winter.

7.    Painting:

It may be too late to paint the entire outside of the house but you can do any touch up paint. Performing cosmetic painting will help prevent having to do a bigger paint job in the spring.

These are just some of the tasks you may need to do around your home to get ready for winter.  A handyman can help you with these tasks.
