Concrete Driveway Benefits

Concrete Driveways

Introduction:

If you're building a home or just renovating a home and think the driveway needs a facelift, consider the benefits of a concrete driveway. A concrete driveway looks a lot better than the traditional asphalt driveway.

A concrete driveway has a smoother finish and looks a lot cleaner than an asphalt or stone driveway and it is easier to take care of. Just think, no more annual sealing of the driveway as must be done for asphalt driveways. Here are a few reasons to consider a concrete driveway:

Concrete driveways are low maintenance. Unlike an asphalt driveway a concrete driveway can be easily swept clean of dirt and debris. If your driveway becomes stained from leaks in cars or other problems you can remove the stain easily with warm water and soap. If the stain is stubborn a granular cleaner will easily get the job done.

Most driveways are made of a lightweight concrete and are toweled to a smooth finish which makes them easy to maintain. After the concrete is cured, which takes about ninety days, a onetime sealant is applied to protect the finish. Applying the sealer is an easy DIY homeowner project.

Concrete is stronger and has more longevity than other driveway materials. If you own an SUV or a minivan your vehicle weighs hundreds of pounds. All this weight constantly moving up and down your drive does result in wear and tear. Very often you can see shallow ruts begin to form on asphalt driveways after approximately ten years but not on concrete driveways. Concrete is one of the most functional, inexpensive and strong construction materials available, and, when poured and finished correctly will hold up to traffic and the weather for decades.

Because of their curb appeal concrete driveways are no longer just the domain of parking lots and industrial sites. The smooth clean finish appeals to many home buyers as well. If grey concrete doesn't suit your home's décor you can dye concrete nearly any color and add unique textures and finishes. Concrete can also be given a high polish or speckled surface. Most concrete installers have the capabilities to do different options of color and design such as a stamped concrete driveway that looks like brick or pavers.

Installing a concrete driveway is easy and can be formed into most any shape and size. You can shape your concrete around existing home features or incorporate steps, planters and garden paths.

If you are having difficulty making up your mind about a concrete driveway talk to a driveway installation specialist. He can provide you with information on different driveway designs and color choices that will suit your outside decor.
