Choosing Outdoor Wooden Furniture

Teak Wood Furniture for Your Patio

  c

Introduction:

With the coming of spring it’s time to consider setting up the patio for the summer season. The patio furniture may need to be repainted or replaced. If you are considering replacing the patio furniture making the choice of just what type and style you want can be a difficult decision. There are various types of wooden furniture you can buy such as white cedar, teak, oak, pine, red wood, composite, etc. All these wooden furniture types are good choices and can enhance the beauty of your patio.

Before choosing outdoor wooden furniture you should do your research to insure that you purchase the best furniture for the price. Some of the best patio furniture is made from teak wood. Teak wood is durable in extreme weather conditions and it also possesses some features that other woods do not. Teak woods are used widely in making boats, ships and outdoor furniture. Teak woods are naturally resistant to insects and the abundance of natural oil in teak wood makes them resistant to decay and rot. Other woods have oil that protects them, but teak has the ability to retain its oil for a much longer period which makes it more weather resistant than any other type of wood.

Teak furniture requires little or no care at all, it does not need any protection and if left in its natural state requires no maintenance. Teak can be left outside for a whole year. Over time it will turn silvery or grey in color as a result of aging.   When teak changes color it is harmless and brings out its natural beauty.

But if you wish to retain the natural honey color of teak it can be sealed with a teak sealer. It also prevents the growth of mildew and mold on the surface of the furniture. Teak sealer can be installed on both old and new teak furniture. It can be applied by using a spray and or by simply rubbing the surface with a rag and allow to stand in the sun for approximately a week. Teak sealers should be applied yearly after cleaning the surface.

Teak wood furniture is perfect for patio furniture even though it is somewhat expensive. Because it is nearly indestructible it will last for years unlike other types of wood patio furniture that has to be replaced every couple of years.
