Garden Statues and Ornaments
Garden
statues and ornaments add dimension and character to your
garden. They form the backdrop for flowerbeds that can draw
the eye as well as define your personality and add drama to
the setting. There is a near endless selection of garden
statues and ornaments
to choose from that are just right for your garden. They may
represent historical figures, cartoon characters, or your
favorite pet. They may also be old watering pots, wagon
wheels, or simply a colorful stone. Stepping stones have
become popular as garden ornaments as they are relatively
inexpensive.

No garden is complete without
some form
of ornaments that tell a story about you and your
garden. A little bit of caution is advised here. You do not
want the statues or ornaments oversized for the garden
setting. The size must be balanced with the size of the
garden and type of flora. Large statues may be used as a
focal points but it should be for attraction rather than a
distraction.
Whatever statue or ornament you
choose you want it to enhance the beauty of your garden.
Garden statues and ornaments are made from concrete, cut
stone, or rosin. I prefer the rosin garden ornaments because
they are light in weight, making them easy to move inside
during winter season. Garden stepping stone and concrete are very heavy and
more difficult to move. Like rosin statues, stone statues
hold up exceptionally well under all environmental
conditions and are not stressed during winter weather.
Cement statues do not hold up well in a wet cold environment
and tend to discolor and deteriorate rather quickly. Muted
tones concrete ornaments go better in most garden setting
rather than raw concrete.

Before choosing your garden ornaments, decide what kind
and style that you want that will fit in well with your
landscape and garden decor. Do not choose a garden ornament
that is too small or too large for the setting. It must draw
attention to your setting rather than away from it. Although
if there is a break in the garden layout a large statue or
ornament may be appropriate at the end or beginning of a
pathway to draw attention to what lies ahead such as a pool
or a retaining wall.
Keep in mind that the
garden ornaments should not compete with each
other for attention. They should be used to
offer dimension and character to the garden and
tell a story.
