Radiators to Heat Your Home

Overview:

If you are building a new home you may be surprised at the number of choices you have to make from the new materials and new utility systems used in home construction today. The heating system is a case in point. If you are currently deciding about what type of heating system you want, choosing a hot water system that includes radiators to heat your home may be a good choice. Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding if they are right for you.

Modern radiators are not the same as the old fashion type used in the old days of home construction. The new radiators are much smaller, more efficient and more attractive than they were in the past. You can get baseboard radiators that are very compact in the shape of a baseboard and are much less noticeable than their antique counterparts.

Radiators recycle the heating medium (hot water) so that it can be reused?  The modern radiator uses heated pressurized water which travels through metal or plastic plumbing from your hot water boiler to the radiators. The radiators and the plumbing heat up allowing the heat to transfer to the air, making the room warmer. Because it is a humid heat it will not dry out your home, your skin, hair, and nails like dry forced air heat or electric heat does. A hot water radiator heating system can be some of the most efficient means of providing heat to your home.

If you do not want the same amount of heat in every room all of the time, a radiator system is an excellent choice for your home. Each radiator has its own temperature controls and can be set as high, or as low, as you would like. This can save you money on your heating cost. A radiator can also be tied into a radiant heating system more easily than other types of heating systems.

However, if you want central air conditioning in your home then a hot water heating system is not a heating system choice. A central air unit uses a forced air furnace to move chilled air through a system of ducts. Because a house heated with a hot water radiators has neither of these items. If you are okay with the idea of a window or wall mounted air conditioner to cool your home then you can use hot water radiators for the heating season.

Modern radiators look entirely different from the old radiators. There is a wide range of different models to choose from. If you are remodeling your home it is relatively easy to convert an older radiator to the new design. Radiators are some of the best heaters around. They are environmentally friendly and efficient and can give you the control over the temperature in your home that few other systems can match.
