Roofing Boots for Roof Repairs
Proper Attire for Roofing Repairs
Introduction:
Residential roofs are made
of many different and dissimilar types of
constructional materials. Metal and asphalt roofing
shingles make for a particularly attractive and
strong roof material but they can be difficult to
walk on. Slates or shakes roofing are especially
attractive but is expensive and should be protected
while working on the roof.
Whatever the roofing material, roof repair
and maintenance should be carried out only with the
best roofing boots to protect the material from
damage. Working on the roof barefoot is
probably an easy way to do some roof repairs.
However, it is one of the easiest ways to get
burned or do some permanent damage to the feet.
Slipping off a roof is always an inherent danger
depending on the roofing material.
Like any other kind of work boot there is no one
roofing boot to choose from that will satisfy
everyone. Roofing boots can come in many different
designs and models and choosing a roofing boot
depends as much on traction and durableness as it
does on comfort.
As roof maintenance professional or a DIY homeowner
that likes to do his own roof maintenance should
purchase lace-up boots that will provide good
ankles support and has a good tread. This will help
keep the boots on your feet while you work on the
roof and provide you with good traction to keep you
from slipping off the roof. In particular, look for
roofing boots that have soft soles and smooth toes
to be as comfortable as possible.
Slip-on boots are not a good choice because they do
not provide good ankle support. In accordance with
OCHA rules, steel toe boots are a must in heavy
work boots for commercial and residential
construction. They also should have steel shanks
that will maintain the arch of your foot
Although sneakers may be comfortable they are not
recommended. If you are working on a sheet metal
roof and are concerned about making dents in the
roofing material, a soft crepe sole roofing boot
will work just as well as sneakers. If your roof has a steep
incline, low-cut or low-top roofing boots will help
to keep from biting or chafing your leg while you
work. Look for roofing boots that have high
traction to avoid slipping on the roof surface.
Roofing boots should provide the best quality of
any other type of work boot for the lowest cost
possible. When looking to purchase a good quality
roofing boot you may have to go to a specialty
footwear store. With the right footwear, roof work
can be a lot easier and even enjoyable. Related articles: |
