Removing a Swimming Pool
Overview: Swimming pools are an exciting
purchase in the life of any family. Getting a pool can bring much
joy to the children, who will likely spend endless hours swimming
and enjoying themselves with friends and family, especially during
those hot summer months. A pool is also great for social occasions
for the adults. Sitting around a swimming pool entertaining friends,
cooling off after a hard day’s work, is a great way to relax.
However, eventually the swimming pool has to be removed. Unfortunately there comes the time when the swimming pool has served its purpose and has to be removed. The kids may have grown up and moved on, and you seem to be using it less and less and it may be just taking up valuable space in your back garden. If you have an above ground pool the task is easier. Just simply pull it apart and you will have your backyard back. If your swimming pool is an in- ground pool removing it is much harder. Demolishing an
in-ground swimming pool involves completely demolishing the
reinforced steel and concrete and back filling the hole with fill.
You can do this as a DIY project but it will require a great deal of
work. The best approach is to hire a contractor with an excavator to
remove the pool. It will take approximately four hours for the
contractor to demolish your pool and he will haul away the debris. I
do not recommend that you just bury the debris and cover it up.
After the pool is removed
fill the hole with fill and ensure that it is compacted as the hole
is filled to avoid settling later on. If you intend to use the
ground for landscaping purposes or a garden plot then you will need
to put down about four to six inches of top soil on top of the fill. Unfortunately most swimming pool owners are eventually confronted with the unpleasant task of removing the swimming pool. It does not have be a sad occasion, just think of how much better the backyard is going to look after so many years of being occupied by the pool. Once again you will have the opportunity to change your backyard into a garden of beauty or installing a putting green if you are into golf. A putting green can offer entertainment for the visiting children and your friends just as the swimming pool once did.
