Building a Sunroom Addition
Sunroom Building Materials
Sunrooms can be constructed out of several
different types of materials. Before beginning, the
material you use and the sunroom design should
match the styling
The frame of the sunroom is typically made out of
wood, but other materials can be used such as
aluminum or steel. The roofing material should
match the house, whether it is tiles, shingles,
shakes or whatever you already have on the roof of
your house. You may choose a solarium-style sunroom
where the roof is actually an extension of the
windows.
Consider the style and size of the sunroom windows.
The number and size of the windows will determine
how much light will be in the room. Consider the
type of windows and how they open and what type of
insulating properties they have, such as low
e-glass, double paned windows and others features
that allow the light in and insulate the room from
excessive heat or cold. In more temperate climates
louvered glass should be considered so they can be
used to easily open and let the breeze in.
The sunroom interior walls can be left open to
expose the frame work or can be fully insulated
walls with drywall or paneling. The floors can be
anything from concrete, tile, hard wood, or
carpeting. The choices are almost endless however I
would stay away from hardwood because the sunlight
will cause them to bleach out very quickly. These are some of the ideas that you should take into consideration before deciding on building a sunroom addition and what type of construction material to use to build it. Building a sunroom is often a DIY homeowner project. Essentially it is built like any other home addition. Before you start constructing a sunroom insure that you have detailed plans and a construction permit. Related articles: |
