Building a Shed

Build a Backyard Shed

Introduction:

Before you begin to build a shed, determine if you need a building permit. Some towns require a permit if the shed is larger than 8 X 10 feet. Your local zoning office can advise you on what size shed requires a building permit. An 8 X 10 shed is a pretty large shed so if you don’t require a permit for this size shed you will be able to accommodate a lot of storage. Don’t overbuild a storage shed. If you need a second garage or barn to accommodate your needs then build one.

Building a storage shed can be easy with some simple step-by-step instructions. Building your own storage shed can be a fun weekend family project. If it is aShed large shed the project will take a few weekends to complete. You can customize your own storage shed to fit your needs. With some simple step by step instructions you can build a storage shed like an expert. A plan for an 8 x 10 storage shed is simple in design and requires the minimum amount of standard building material to build it.

Building your own storage shed is a lot easier than most people think. Whether you are building a tool shed, garden shed, or a utility storage shed, some good shed plans will make this project a lot easier. You can save a lot of money by building your own storage shed yourself. A well designed and built shed will always add value.

Gable and gambrel roof style storage sheds are the most popular shed plans. A gable roof shed has two equal pitches that meet at a center ridge where a gambrel roof storage shed is designed to look more like a barn.

Before beginning have a site plan. A site plan is a detailed layout of the storage shed relative to other buildings on the property. The site plan will give you an idea of where to place your storage shed so it won’t be an eye sore.

Backyard storage sheds add a lot of extra storage space especially if you have a small garage. When the shed is complete don’t postpone painting it. An unpainted shed in the backyard is an unfinished shed.
