Building Arbors

Arbor Construction

If you cannot figure out exactly what to do to spice up the back yard, enhance a garden or improve a drab building entrance, maybe constructing an arbor is your answer. Arbors offer versatility to your property in several ways. They can immediately transform a plain drab garage entrance or a plain nondescript backyard lot into something special where you may hang a swing or hammock. Arbor construction is a great home improvement project.

DIY project. Arbor construction have been in use throughout time to enhance gardens. They provide an excellent place to grow climbing flowers and grape vines. An arbor enables you to squeeze more flowers in a restricted garden space by allowing the flowers and vines to grow vertically where they fare better because they can receive more sun. In addition, arbors can establish privacy barriers and increase outdoor living space during the warm seasons. Arbors can influence mood swings, and provide a romantic hideaway to while away a summer afternoon on a swing or hammock. They can also enhance the landscape, particularly if your back yard appears drab or lacking esthetics in appearance.

Arbors construction is relative easy, an ideal project by DIY homeowner during a weekend. Material is readily available at most home improvement centers. It is moderately inexpensive and construction can be completed in a single day using common tools. When your arbor is complete, you will enjoy something more than just a sense of accomplishing another home project. You will have the admiration of your family and neighbors as well as the sense of having contributed a breath of beauty to your yard.  There are several different types of arbors.

Arbor 1Fig. 1 is a typical wooden arbor that can be purchased at a garden center or home improvement supply center. They are relatively inexpensive and usually come all assembled. This type of arbor is usually located at a garden entrance or serves as an accent piece in the garden.

Arbor 2Fig. 2 is a wooden arbor that is built on location and attached to a building. In this case it is attached to a garage side entrance. It has an enclosed roof to protect the entryway from the rain. It is also called a pergola.

Arbor 3

Fig. 3

Fig. 3 is also a standalone arbor that is built on site. It is very large, measuring seven feet tall, forty feet long, and eight feet long. Although it is not difficult to construct it is a large structure. It contains two hanging arbor swings and has flowers on one side and grape vines on the other side. It is located in the back yard to separate the lawn area from the vegetable garden.

Whatever your preference for an arbor, an arbor will greatly enhance your yard and garden area. An EBook is available in the Ebook section of this web site that gives detailed instructions for the construction of the arbor seen in Fig 2.
