Stair Tread Rugs
Covering Wood Stairs with
Tread Rugs
Introduction:
If you have hardwood floors
and stairs you know that keeping them clean and
waxed protects them and also makes them slippery.
Slippery stairs can be a big safety issue, causing
people to slip and tumble down the stairs. Tumbling
down stairs nearly always results in injuries. Some
home owners are reluctant to cover beautiful
hardwood stairs with any kind of stair rugs.
Unfortunately they risk the safety of the
occupants.
You
can resolve the safety issue simply by installing
stair treads rugs that are specifically designed to
fit the steps. You retain the beauty of the wood,
as seen around the edges of each rug, but avoid the
safety hazard of slippery stairs and the wear and
tear on each step. In addition, stair rugs also
reduce noise. Whether you have a toddler who is new
at climbing the stairs or an older individual who
can’t risk a fall, having stair tread rugs will
protect people from dangerous falls on the stairs.
If
you have stairs that lead into a basement or
outside the house, stair treads will reduce the
amount of dirt tracked into the living space of
your home as well as providing a measure of safety.
Stair tread rugs come in a wide variety of styles and
colors and sized to fit any stair. Any carpet sales
center sell stairs tread rugs and the price is very
reasonable. They can be made to fit any size tread
and fit across the entire stair tread or just a
portion that allows the wood to show on the sides.
Stair runners, a stair carpet
that covers the entire stair steps, are an option
to stair tread rugs, but they cover up a great deal
more of the wood and therefore are frowned on by
homeowners who want to show off beautiful wood
stairs. Stair tread rugs are small stair sized rugs
that attach to each step. They are not obtrusive
and they permit the beautiful hardwood steps to be
exposed.
The small rugs are attached to
each step using either double sided tape, glue or
are nailed in place using small brads. I do not
recommend using double sided tape because the tape
will dry causing the rug to slip which is a worse
safety hazard than no stair tread rugs at all.
If you have wooden stairs
anywhere in your home I recommend that installing
stair carpet treads to offer your family and guests
the safety protection they deserve.
