Overview:

Wrought iron has been used for decorating homes for centuries and it is here to stay. The wide collection of wrought iron décor products and decorations that are available in home decorating stores seems to guarantees wrought iron products will be around a lot longer.

Wrought iron is basically an iron alloy that has very low carbon content, unlike steel. When the grain wrought is exposed it resembles wood in many ways. Wrought iron is tough, malleable, and ductile and is very easy to weld into almost any shape. Before the technique of steelmaking came into existence in the mid centuries, wrought iron was the most common form of malleable iron.

Wrought iron, known as “pig iron” was used to produce swords, knives, and all sorts of household tools and war implements. Wrought iron was also the metal used on ironclad warships and railways in the seventeenth century. Eventually it was replaced by low grade or mild steel and wrought iron was relegated to decorative furnishings for inside and outside the home.

Today wrought iron is primarily used as rustic décor to make garden furniture, iron gates, wrought iron accessories for the home such as fireplace screens, and all sorts of interior decorations. Wrought iron is used extensively for conservation of historic structures. Older houses in protected historical districts often are surrounded with wrought iron gates, fences and railings.  Wrought iron home decorations are very popular and are relatively inexpensive. As it is neutrally black or dark gray in color, it mixes well with any home color scheme. There is a huge variety of wrought iron products available for each room in a house.

For inside the home wrought iron accessories such as fireplace screens, wrought iron floor lamps, wrought iron chairs, tables, curtain rods, fireplace screens, wall clocks, and wall art is readily available. The same is true for bedrooms, mirrors, lamps, and headboards. For kitchens and dining rooms there are bakers' racks and chandeliers. In addition spindles and railings on the staircase are made of wrought iron which gives a classic look to any home. Wrought iron products will coordinate with nearly any home decorating design and is a good investment.

Wrought iron home decorations signify elegance and luxury whether it is used on your stairways, railing, doorways or wall sconces and wrought iron art.
Wrought iron sconces are available with lights and candles in many different design patterns. Wrought iron sconces are not only functional, they are also stylish.
