Types of Floor Tiles

Floor Tile

Introduction:

If you are planning on covering a new floor or recovering a floor there are several options of floor coverings available such as hardwood flooring, floor tiles, linoleum or carpet. With so many choices available, it will be difficult to reach a decision quickly.

However, it is important that you take your time while you finalize your choice of flooring. You should look around and research well so that you purchase exactly what you want.  There are several types of floor tiles available to choose from.

Floor coverings in the form of floor tiles are usually divided in two categories, hard surface and soft surface tiles. Hard surface tiles are the ceramic tile and porcelain tile.

Hard surface tiles:

  1. Ceramic tile is very popular as floor coverings. They are usually made of soil, clay, composites and Kiln fire. They are great for kitchens and bathrooms as they are non porous. Generally these tiles are quite slick when wet so it is better that you buy a non slip variety for your bathroom and kitchen to avoid accidents.

  2. Porcelain tile has an old fashioned classy look. They are available in various styles and designs and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Porcelain tiles are great for locations with harsh weather conditions. Porcelain tiles are fired at high temperature so they last longer which makes them the perfect option for solid flooring anywhere.

Soft surface tiles:

  1. Vinyl tiles are among the most economical choice for floor coverings. They are easy to install and are very durable. It is also very easy to clean them and they do not require a lot of maintenance.

  2. Linoleum will give your floor an inexpensive facelift. It is easy to put down and you have a great variety available from which you can select from to suit your décor.

Apart from the hard and soft tile categories, stone tiles are also a very popular option for contemporary floor finishing. Stone tiles are very durable and give a fresh look for decades. If you who want a more upscale look and are not working on a tight budget then you can go for beautiful marble tiles by paying a little extra.

Floor coverings are expensive. You should choose the best quality products at the most affordable prices. I recommend that you visit show supplier rooms to review the options available before you decide which floor cover to purchase. And if you do not have the expertise to install the floor covering yourself as a DIY project, use the supplier contractors.
