Inexpensive Drapes and Curtains

Introduction:

As any home owner knows you can spend a lot of money for curtains and drapery for your home. But there is another alternative; you can purchase less expensive drapes and curtains. Inexpensive or cheap curtains do not have to look cheap.

Inexpensive curtains are manufactured by a lot of home decorating manufactures but are not necessarily promoted in home decorating catalogs or displayed in the front row of drapery and curtain shops.  It's only a matter of knowing where to shop and what you are looking for to find them.

Drapes and curtains serve several purposes. First is that they are part of the room or the home decorations. Second, they also serve as an insulator for the window against the heat and the cold. During the summer drapes and curtains serve to keep out the heat and prevent direct early morning sun light. During the winter drapes and curtains insulate the home against heat loss. There really is no need to spend a small fortune to get the same results as there are a lot of less expensive drapes and curtains that will serve the same purpose.

Inexpensive drapes and curtains are available in most home decorative supply centers but you have to look for them. They won’t necessarily occupy the front displays; they are more often located at the rear of the store or under the counter.

One of the distinct differences between the expensive and inexpensive drapes and curtains is thickness of the lining, if there is any lining at all. The visible fabric may be great in every way but the lining serves to give the curtains weight and facilitate protection to the front fabric. The lining also serves as a light and heat protector. To provide this purpose most inexpensive drapes and curtains have “blackout” lining. The blackout lining shields the sun and helps keeps the summer heat out. It serves the same purpose during colder months by helping to prevent heat lost through the window. Blackout linings also add weight and volume to give an extra luxurious draping effect to the finished drape or curtain.

For the warm summer weather faux silk curtains work well to keep out heat and sun light. These inexpensive drapes and curtains have a very thin front fabric but the blackout lining gives them form and body and a more expensive appearance. They are available in many trendy colors to suit any taste or decorating needs.   Most are manufactured from polyester material to imitate real silk. These faux silk curtains have a fabulous and elegant charm and are inexpensive and can be machine washed.

If you cannot find inexpensive drapes and curtains in your favorite home supply center they are available in numerous catalogs. There is really no need to blow your interior decorating budget on expensive drapes and curtain, there are many choices that are much cheaper that will suit your needs.
