Cheap Home Decorating Ideas for the Weekend

Introduction:

One of the great pleasures in owning your own home is thinking about how you’d like to redecorate it if money was not an object. Most every homeowner has some home decorating ideas, plans or dreams of redecorating one of the rooms in their home. Many times these plans are put off because the redecorating seems cost too much or is a major project.

Here are some inexpensive (cheap) interior decorating projects for the weekend that are not that major and are inexpensive. You can complete them in a weekend, or less. And they are the kind of changes you could make in an apartment or rental house without risking too much of your own money.

Begin by picking up the supplies at a hardware store or home improvement center on Friday while you are running errands or are on your way home from work. Plan to complete your decorating project on Saturday and leave Sunday for anything left over, like cleaning up.

Replacing Light Switch Plates:
One of the easiest ways to update your home is to update the light switch plates. It’s usually the first thing you reach for when you walk into a room, so a new switch plate will surely get noticed.

Find a decorative switch plate that will fit the décor of the room. You can replace a plastic plate with one made of brass, copper or chrome for a more refined and decorative look. You can also consider switch plates that have textured designs or pretty color schemes.

Using a screwdriver, unscrew the old plate, and then simply screw in the new plate into the same holes in the switch.

Hanging New Artwork:
A very dramatic yet very simple way is to update your walls by hanging new artwork. Many home stores sell inexpensive reproductions of famous paintings and photographs, or you can look for inexpensive artwork ideas in most art stores.

Add An Accent Wall:
A more involved wall project is to paint one wall in a room a different color. This accent wall is an easy way to add vibrancy to a room. Just make certain it’s a complimentary color.

When you choose the wall that you’re going to turn into an accent wall, decide what the best feature in the room is and use a paint color to bring it out even more. It should be the focal point of the room, such as a wall with a fireplace or a piece of art on it. When painting an accent wall, use a small roller to avoid wasting paint, a large roller will absorb more paint.

Replacing Bathroom or Kitchen Hardware:

A simple bathroom or kitchen redecorating project is to update the hardware. Cabinet knobs and drawer pulls are easy to replace and can give your bathroom and kitchen a completely different look. All you need is a screwdriver to remove the old hardware and install the new.

Before you purchase new hardware, measure the distance between the screw holes on the cabinet handles and supports on the towel bar. Make sure that the new hardware will match the old sizes.

These inexpensive (cheap) home interior decorating ideas for the weekend are not major projects and won’t break a modest budget. In most cases you can have a new home look for some of the most important rooms in your home or apartment in less than a day. This is a fun way to spend a lazy weekend and change the look in some of the rooms and add some visual interest and a little value to your home.
