Fireplace and Woodstove Tool Set

Wood Burning Tools

Introduction:

A handsome fireplace and woodstove tool set can add to the beauty of any fireplace, even a gas fireplace. However, a tool set for a gas fireplace is purely for hearth decoration. A tool set for wood burning fireplaces and wood stoves is an absolute necessity for safety when putting wood in the appliance or removing ashes.

A standard fireplace and woodstove tool set has five pieces:

  • A poker for moving flaming logs

  • A set of tongs for lifting the logs and repositioning them

  • A long handled brush  for sweeping out the ash

  • A long handled dust pan to sweep the ash into

  • A tool stand to hold the implementsFireplace tool set

The variations in design can give you the look and feel you want for your fireplace. If you don't want the whole set, you can buy individual pieces as needed. Place then in a stand next to the fireplace to enhance the appearance.

For a more rustic look, purchase a forged wrought iron stand with four twisted rods that make up the center portion. At the bottom, the rods untwist to curve out and then under, creating a stable stand. At the top the rods untwist and curve into hooks from which the four tools hang. The tools themselves can have wrought iron handles that are bent over at the top to provide a loop to hang them and an easy grip for use.

A simpler wrought iron tool set has a stand with two rods rising from four feet and terminating in two hooks. The tools are a straight rod with a simple loop at the top to hang them over the hooks. Another rustic wrought iron look is a variation of the four rod stand but the rods aren’t braided together. The four hooks at the top hold each tool separately. A simple, circular handle rather than a narrower loop can have quite an elegant effect. The stand also is available in a Victorian style bronze.

A black nickel finish tool set can also add luster with a silvery hew. For an even lighter touch, consider pewter. The handles don't have to be closed loops; they can be simple shepherd's crooks.

In any design the stand and the tool handles can be of the same pattern which complements the stand. The handle loops curve over and rejoin the handle with several inches of braid around it. The bars of the stand can flute out in the center instead of braiding, creating a lovely, egg-shaped central space. The handles can have a leaf shaped pattern that is duplicated in the legs of the stand.

If you really want the pieces to shine you can go with polished brass. A polished brass stand with a polished brass shovel, brush handle, tongs, and poker present a mirror like finish that reflects the dancing light of the fire. For a subtler accent just use polished brass handles that are shaped like long knobs on the top of a wrought iron tool set. Another option on the brass tool set is the same handles in black, green, or white marble.

Your fireplace or woodstove can offer a comfortable setting on a cold winter night. A well selected fireplace and woodstove tool set can dress up the hearth in an old fashion or modern setting. Tool sets of many different designs are available at most home improvement supply centers or fireplace and woodstove accessory shops.
