Corner Fireplaces - Gas Fireplaces

Overview: Installing a fireplace to your home either during the construction stage or after it has been built can be an addition that will give you something that will be an enjoyable part of your home environment for years.

One of the main problems with adding a fireplace is that they take up so much of the room and floor space that it is difficult to choose where to place it. Most homes today do not have large rooms to fit a fireplace into. If that is the case then you might consider a corner fireplace design. Corner fireplaces work well in most rooms rather than the traditional fireplace located in the middle of a wall which takes up the entire wall, limiting space for furniture and family activities.

There are many corner fireplace designs available for you to choose from. The most traditional are either brick or stone finished fireplaces which are built into the home during construction and burn wood. A wood burning fireplace certainly provides the nostalgic feeling that is not necessarily available with a gas burning fireplace.

There are some drawbacks to consider when it comes to a wood burning fireplace. Dealing with dust and smoky smell that will get into your furniture, drapes, and sticks to your home regardless of how much you clean. Wood burning fireplaces tend to be a dust magnet requiring you to dust on a regular basis if not daily basis. In addition, you have the hassle of dealing with firewood; buying, splitting, stacking, and dragging it into the house. Burning wood is a labor intense task that can be avoided by simply installing a gas burning fireplace.

One of the more unique features of a cornerCorner_fireplace fireplace design is that they are prefabricated fireplaces that simply fit into place, either wood or gas burning. Although you can install a wood burning fireplace as an addition to a room, installing a gas burning fireplace is probably a better choice.  Gas is extremely convenient, clean and easy to use for a fireplace. Gas fireplaces can burn either propane (LP gas) or natural gas. All you would need to do is to slip the prefabricated fireplace into the corner, hook up the gas line, and provide a vent for any fumes. If it is not a prefabricated unit you will have to trim it out to your taste. I do not recommend an electric fireplace because they are very expensive to operate.

Corner fire places are great when there is limited space. You can have the comfort of having a fireplace in your home for a secondary heating source and it will provide the same ascetics of a traditional fireplace with a hearth seat and mantel for fireplace decorations and accessories. A corner fireplace will permit you to use your room for your family and a quest gathering place or whatever else you had used it for previously to installing the fireplace.
