Home Improvements Lighting
Lighting
Introduction: A home improvements lighting is a worthwhile project project that will insure that you will always have sufficient light in areas where you need them. Proper lighting also produces a positive effect on the appearance of the room and increase safety. Dark areas in hallway and garages can be eliminated just by adding a few inexpensive lights.
One of the most challenging areas of the house in
terms of lighting is the living room because it is
multifunctional. Insure that you have background
lighting installed that will make the living room
either bright or dim, depending on the occasion.
Consider installing separate controllable feature
lighting that will focus on certain areas of the
room.
The dining room requires lighting at the dining
table. Insure that it is not glaring light. The
background lighting should be gentle and have a
dimmer control. You can add wall lights in special
parts of the dining room, such as the serving and
carving areas, to give an impressive effect during
special occasions.
The kitchen usually needs a series of special
lighting arrangements, with particular attention to
focal points such as the stove, the sink and the
food preparation area. The best option is to use
task lights for these areas.
For home improvements lighting in bathrooms the
most basic lighting requirement is simple
background lighting. A great addition is
fluorescent ceiling lights over the sink to give
you a sufficient light without the glare whether
you are shaving or applying makeup. For the shower
cubicle it would be best to install splash proof
recessed lighting.
When you are thinking about upgrading the lighting
for the bedroom you might want an overall peaceful
background lighting for sleeping and controllable
local lighting in order to cater to different
activities such as watching television, reading in
bed, and dressing and undressing.
Areas such as the hallway and the staircase should
be properly lighted for safety reasons.
Aside from
the functional properties of different types of
lighting there are also lights to consider for
decorative lighting and highlight lighting.
Spotlights are great for lighting when you want to
emphasize displays. They can work as single, double
or triple units that can be mounted on the wall or
the ceiling. You can adjust the direction of the
beam to give certain effects on the walls, drapes,
and ceilings. Color changes can also make a
dramatic difference. These are great for
illuminating individual areas such as a display
unit, the fireplace, or an arch.
Don’t overlook indoor security lighting. Good
lighting discourages intruders from entering the
home and are programmable so you can switch on
plug-in lights and fixed lights while you aren't at
home.
