Cleaning and Care of Corian Counter Tops

Introduction: Proper cleaning and care of corian counter tops is essential.  Although corian counter tops are extremely durable and should hold up to nominal use for a life time they still require routine cleaning and care.

There are three types of corian counter top finishes; matte/satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss. Most countertops are finished with a matte/satin finish. However, sinks have a matte/satin finish. All these finishes require periodic cleaning to maintain their beauty. Listed below are some tips to help you restore and maintain the beauty of your counter tops.

For removing most dirt and residue from all types of finishes use Spic and Span or an equivalent cleaner. Do not use a window cleaner as they usually leave a waxy film that may dull the finish. To brighten your counter top use “Counter Top Magic” which can be purchased at most home supply centers. Follow the simple direction on the container.

Film builds up on the counter top surface if water is left to dry on it. This film will cause dulling of the countertop making the finish appear blotchy. If the counter top is wiped completely dry after each spill it will prevent the film build up. This is especially important if you have hard water. Cleaning with lime water may be necessary to clean hard water stains. Use Soft Scrub and a green Scotch-Brite pad to remove difficult stains from sinks but do not use Scotch-Brite on the counter top surface. Occasionally disinfect counter tops and sink with a mild bleach solution.

Corian is not as heat resistant as granite counter tops or ceramic tile counter tops. Heat pads should always be used under hot dishes to prevent scorching. Remove scorches, fine scratches, and blotchy spots with a mild liquid cleaner such as Soft Scrub. Smear some on a damp cloth or sponge and rub the surface from front to back and then side to side in overlapping circles until the entire area is cleaned. Then clean wipe the surface with clear water. This process may need to be repeated for more severe scratches.Counter top 1

Contact as counter top dealer for deep cuts and chipped edges. Most are reparable using the correct tools and equipment. With route cleaning and touch up your corian counter tops should last a life time.
