Architectural Roofing Shingles

Roofing Shingles

Introduction: In modern home construction and new home material technology, the laminated or dimensional shingles have evolved into a more superior quality roofing shingles that comes with several different distinctive designs. As the design and quality of the roof shingle evolved its name has also changed and is currently known as architectural roofing shingles. This is one of the most modern and durable roofing products that has ever been made.

The traditional laminated shingles are made of fiberglass and mineral granules coated with ceramic that are tightly enclosed on water resistant asphalt. These types of roof shingles are known as fiberglass roof shingles. However, as new technology has been introduced newer products have emerged in the marketplace as well. One of these is called synthetic slate. Synthetic slate is a state-of-the-art roofing product that was specifically designed to imitate the texture and appearance of the natural slate that was used as roofing material for centuries.

Architectural roofing shingles can create a three-dimensional look of your house roof. One of the most appealing architectural roofing shingles is the imitation for cedar shakes. Another architectural shingle simulates the natural slate but unlike the natural slate it doesn’t need additional roof support. Because of architectural shingles extra thickness they are considerably heavier than the traditional shingles. They are much more durable and carry longer warranties starting from 30 years to a lifetime. The weight per square is approximately 480 pounds as compared to regular asphalt shingles that weigh as much as a third less depending on the manufacturer.

The modern designed architectural shingles prevent aesthetic problems such as black streaks which is very common in locations with excessive rainfalls and humidity. These shingles are so durable that they are wind resistant up to 120 miles per hour and are also fire resistant.

So if you are planning on replacing your current roof, consider architectural roofing shingles rather than asphalt roof shingles or fiberglass shingles. They will last much longer than regular shingles and look great for decades.
