Trends in Kitchen Countertops

Marble and Granite Countertops

Introduction:

The process of kitchen countertop fabrication has not changed a lot since the time of the ancient Greeks and the only noticeable change is that the entire process has become more automated and simplified. The fabricating kitchen countertop implies the process of taking huge stones from the quarries to make marble and granite slabs for various purposes.

After they have been cut from the quarries the marble and granite slabs are cut from the larger pieces and polished to suit the trends in kitchen countertops by the home construction industry. Although the idea and trends in kitchen countertop fabrication and installation has not changed a great deal, the process and the equipment used have improved with the latest technology.

The kitchen countertop manufacturing requires saws, polishers and routers to cut and polish the marble and granite countertops. The saws start the process with the cutting of the stones into large slabs. These saws are very expensive and are normally equipped with a diamond blade to cut the hard stone. Besides diamond saws there are also bridge saws that are used to cut the slabs into more specific sizes and shapes, such as for marble and granite countertops, flooring and mantel pieces.

The polishers have an integral role in the kitchen countertop manufacturing process. They sand down the surface to the texture according to the customers' desire. The marble and granite slabs can be polished to a mirror finish from the course rock they once were. The finishes include smooth, soft look, slick look and mirror finishes, which are also the most common.

Modern trends in kitchen countertops have been toward marble and granite with the advent of these sophisticated tools to work the raw rock material into the beautiful pieces used for kitchen and bathroom countertops. In most cases these countertops will outlive the home that they are installed in. They are certainly worth considering if you are remodeling a kitchen or thinking about building a home.
