Installing Lights Under Kitchen Cabinet

Under Kitchen Cabinet LED Lights

Introduction:

If you are remodeling your kitchen and want an energy efficient and low cost kitchen lighting options consider under cabinet lights. Under kitchen cabinet lights gives your cupboards a special look and the chief cook usable light to work with. Even if you are keeping the existing cabinets, LED (light-emitting diode) under cabinet kitchen lighting is a modern and energy saving way to make your kitchen shine with a new lights.

There are several myths about LED under counter kitchen lights or under cabinet kitchen lights. First, LED lighting is not expensive. LED lighting prices have come down significantly due to mass production and opening of new factories. LED lights can use as much as five times less power than incandescent or fluorescent lights. They will pay for themselves in just a few years at the least.

The second myth is that LED lights give out unnatural blue light. This was common a decade ago when the LED lights technology and the materials used in manufacturing LED kitchen lights was in it’s invent stage. Both “daylight white” and "warm white" light hues are available in addition to many other color options that include blue, orange and red. Most people will prefer the "warm white" color as it seems to be easier on the eyes at night.

The third myth is that Xenon lights are best for under kitchen cabinets. Xenon lights are just like halogens and the standard light bulbs are all types of incandescent light. Incandescent lights actually put more energy out as heat than light. Up to 95% of the energy can be wasted as heat.

The fourth myth is that heat output is not important when it comes to under cabinet kitchen lighting. Incandescent lights such as halogen, xenon and fluorescent lights put out much of their energy as heat. Halogens are the worst followed by xenon and fluorescents. If you are storing foodstuffs in the cabinets the heat from the under cabinet lights will penetrate into the cabinet causing spoilage of food.

The fifth myth is that installing under cabinet lighting is complicated. This is not correct. In fact, if you do not know how to install under cabinet lighting, LED lights will be the easiest and the safest way to go.

Installing lights under kitchen cabinets is the kitchen lighting of choice in new home construction and kitchen interior design experts. It is extremely efficient and can be installed in older homes by DIY homeowners quite easily.
