How to Replace Washing Machine HosesRemoving and Installing Washing Machine Hoses
Introduction: Washing machine hoses should be replaced approximately every five years to avoid a broken hose and a major flood in your home. It is relatively easy to replace the hoses and only will take a few minutes. Older hoses are are prone to develop slow leaks and even burst with a sudden increase in water pressure. You can avoid these types of disaster by checking the hose often and replacing them before they cause a problem. Removing the old hoses:1. Turn off the water supply to the washer. 2. Set the machine to the filling cycle, and turn it on for a few seconds. This will relieve any pressure in the hoses and insure that the water is off. 3. Unplug the washing machine and pull it away from the wall approximately a foot so you can gain access to the hoses. There are three hoses: a fat drain hose, and two thinner water hoses, one for hot and one for the cold. 4. If you have sufficient slack on the hoses continue to pull out the machine until you have space behind it to work. Don't allow the drain hose to drop to the floor or water will drain on the floor. 5. Place a bucket beneath the hoses and drain the water into the bucket. Installing the replacement hose:1. Insure that the replacement hoses have new washers on each end and that they fit firmly into the hose connectors. 2. Slightly tighten the hose connections first using a pair of pliers. 3. Check the hoses to insure that they are not twisted. 4. Finish tightening the connectors at both ends of each hose. Do not over tighten. Remember that the rubber washer in the end of the hose prevents leaks. 5. Turn on the water and check for leaks. Retighten the connections if necessary. 6. Slide the machine back into position and you have completed the task. That is how to replace washing machine hoses. To avoid any surprise disasters the washing machine hoses should be check periodically to insure that they do not leak.
