Washer Dryer Combination Units

Introduction:

If you are crimped for space in your home you may want to consider a combo washer dryer set up. Washer dryer combination units have become quite popular for small homes and apartments. A combination washer dryer takes only half the space that a separate washer and dryer and overall they are cheaper to operate.

By definition a washer dryer combo is a combination of a washing machine and clothes dryer. A washer dryer combo unit is a very useful small home appliance for people who have limited space in their home and cannot afford a separate washing machine and clothes dryer.

Washer dryer combo units not only save space in your home, but they also

save you a lot of money in buying two separate units. They also save time in shifting your laundry from the washing machine to the dryer. Just push one button and your clothes will automatically be washed and dried. Unfortunately it doesn’t iron them too.

There are definite advantages and disadvantages of a washer dryer combo unit. Some of the advantages and disadvantage and best available washer dryer combo units are discussed below.

Advantages of a Washer Dryer Combo Unit:

  • Washer dryer combo units do not require any external ventilation. These combo unit works on a two drum mechanism technology. The inner drum pushes hot air into the outer drum and the hot air cools down through condensation. The water vapor is released out of the outer drum.

  • The combo unit comes in two models, portable and permanent installation. The portable units can be attached to a regular sink spigot.

  • Because there is no need for any external ventilation these combo units can be installed anywhere in the house where there is a spigot, power supply, and drainage to flush out the used water.

  • Combo units are available in various sizes, capacity, and price.

  • Most combo units are designed in such a way that they require very little water, and detergent.

Disadvantages of Washer Dryer Combo Units:

  • Combo units consume a lot of energy.

  • The dryer may not dry clothes as efficiently as a separate dryer would do.

  • It takes more time to dry clothes.

The Best Washer Dryer Combo Units:

The Maytag Super Stack Laundry Pair:

This combo unit is by far the best rated unit. It is the most reliable and most preferred machine by homeowners. The unit is ergonomically designed and saves a lot of space. The dryer function is available in electric as well as a gas version. The washing capacity is 2.6 cubic feet and the drying capacity is 5.9 cubic feet. Larger capacity units are available Cost starts at approximately $1400.

GE Spacemaker:

If you're really short on space this combo unit is only 24 inches wide and will fit in very tight areas. However, it has a small capacity, only 1.5 cubic feet for the washer and 4.3 cubic feet for the dryer. Larger capacity units are available. Cost starts at under a $1000.

LG Combo:

It is also designed for small spaces. It is only 24 inches wide and 33 inches tall. Its capacity is 2.44 cubic feet for the washer and 5.1 cubic feet for the dryer. However, the drying can take several hours for laundry to dry completely. Larger capacity units are available. Cost starts at approximately $1300.

Washer dryer combination units are a big space saving appliance if you have limited space in your home.  I recommend that you consider these factors and do your research before you purchase one.  Insure that it’s energy efficient, energy star rated, and meets your requirements.
